By Assistant Fire Chief Jeffrey Cook
September 12, 2009

At 12:43PM on a rainy Saturday afternoon, the Twin Valley Fire Department was dispatched to assist Station 62(Ridge) on a working barn fire.

Deputy 62(R.Kolb) was on scene and had a 40'x60' barn full of hay and the barn was well involved. Deputy 62 established "Ryerss Command". Command then requested for the second and third alarm.

Ladder 69, Engine 69-1, Engine 69-5 and Rescue 69 responded with 23 volunteers.

Engine 69-1 arrived and was instructed to drop a line at the end of the driveway and "lay in" Engine 1 laid all of its 5" supply line and only completed about half of the lay. Ladder 69 followed Engine 1 in the drive and the ladder set up in front of the barn for a defensive operation with an elevated master stream. Engine 62-2 then finished the lay to the fire scene.

Engine 69-5 proceeded to the Quarry in St Peters and set up a fill site to fill tankers. Rescue 69 staged out on the hard road and filled air bottles.

Units were on scene working for 6 hours with multiple hand lines and the master stream flowing.

Special thanks to the Souderton Canteen (Montgomery County Station 41) for providing the fireman with food and drink. Engine 33-5(Honey Brook) and Rescue 7(Birdsboro) for cover the TVFD first due.

Mutual Aid: Ladder 69, Engine(s) 69-1, 69-2, 69-5, Rescue 69
