By Assistant Fire Chief Jeffrey Cook
July 5, 2009

Today the TVFD Volunteers Participated in the very last Marshlands Hare Scramble. The Scramble is located on the Moore's property off of Marsh road in the TVFD first due.

The Volunteers assisted Elverson EMS with the event. The event held between 500 and 700 riders, and a 5 plus mile long race course, we felt it necessary to take every precaution possible. The course included all sorts of terrain including a dirt wall climb, creeks, and marsh areas. Multiple EMS agencies and local hospitals including three Trauma Centers were notified of the event in preparedness for the worse. In years past the event has brought multiple traumas and fly outs with fewer riders. Units from Minquas EMS (Downingtown) and Uwchlan EMS were on scene as ALS ground transport units while Ambulance 89-1 was on scene as a committed BLS unit. Engine 69-1 established a landing zone for Skycare. The Helicopter was staged at the event all day with no flyouts. EMS personnel treated a total of 3 patients and only transported one of those patients to a trauma center. 89-20 (N. Spece) established 89 Command with the Chester County Fire Board

Assistant 69(Cook), firefighters D. Romig and C. Ewing assisted with their Personal ATV'S in assisting utility 89 in entering the high action and dangerous terrain when a rider crashed deep in the woods.

The Valley Forge Trail Riders is a very active club dedicated to the preservation of off-road motorcycling. Our membership includes men and women of all ages and every ability and interest level, from casual trail riders to very competitive racers. First of all, we're trail riders but we are also an ECEA enduro club and hold the well known and respected Moonshine Enduro annually. In addition, we have sponsored and promoted the Marshlands Hare Scrambles for over ten years. And have even held dual sport events when time and effort allows.

Requirements/Rules: This event will run all ECEA Hare Scramble classes including youth and is subject to ECEA Hare Scramble rules. All entrants must have a valid AMA and ECEA card. For electronic scoring, all riders will need a rider number and transponder. Transponders can by programmed and/or rented the day of the event.

Food was available all day benefiting the American Legion
Land for the event is on private property for use with permission for the event day only!
