By Firefighter/EMT John Trimble
June 28, 2008

On 26 June 2008 at about 5:30 pm Fire Warden Duane Crowley received a call for assistance from DCNR FSS Carol Prangley to assist at a island fire on the Susquehanna River. This particular location is located south of the Holtwood Dam and Norman Wood bridge in Martic Township in Southern Lancaster County.

The Twin Valley Forest Fire Crew responded with four members. When we arrived we were instructed to travel by boat upstream to the island and report to the operations officer. Once making the trip upstream we reported to the operations officer and were given orders to assist in controlling several hotspots and assist the other crews working in the fire area. Fire was deep seeded in several areas making hard work for the firecrews in the heat. The salvation army canteen unit provided refreshments on scene for the firefighters. TVFFC returned home around 1:30 am the next day.
