Flyout on the Turnpike
By Captain Corey Hostetler
October 15, 2007
At 2:33 PM, the TVFD was alerted for the reported auto accident with entrapment on the PA Turnpike at the Morgantown Interchange. Originally dispatched by Lancaster County Communications as eastbound west of the Morgantown Interchange, Lancaster County Engine 3-3-1 (Bowmansville) was signed on the air and enroute to the incident.
Rescue 69 responded with a crew of 7 volunteers, and arrived to find one vehicle overturned in the speed lane, with all occupants out. Elverson EMS was onscene as part of the initial LCWC dispatch, and requested a helicopter on standby.
Captain 69 (C.Hostetler) established "Turnpike Command" and assigned Lancaster Engine 3-3-1 to landing zone ops. The helicopter was requested to fly, and a short time later arrived at the landing site which was just west of the accident scene. Lancaster County Ambulance 3-19 transported a second patient by ground to a local hospital.
TVFD cleared at 2:50.
