The Twin Valley Fire Department held their annual BBQ Competition on May 16,17,18. Friday night events included a wing competition amongst the competitors and first responders which was judged by the public and voting on the best wing with It's Butta Baby BBQ winning the competition. Also on Friday night was a double steak competition which is judged on how close to medium the steak is and flavor the winners receive a golden ticket to compete in the championships in Texas this years winner won both competitions Rick Manzi who passed his tickets down to Michael Rosenthal and Ron Templeman. The public was able to purchase BBQ and other food items from vendors. Saturday kicked off with breakfast provided to the competitors before they finished cooking. The certified KCBS judges arrived and checked in and took the oath of judging before starting turn ins. The competitors started turning in their meats starting with chicken at noon, ribs at 12:30, pork at 1:00 and brisket at 1:30. Awards were handed out at 4:00pm with Chase Porter winning Grand Champion and Rich Morris winning Reserve Champion. After the awards the First Responders Wing competition was held and just like the night before the event was judged by the public and voted for the best wing with the American Legion Post 537 just edging out Twin Valley Fire Department for first place. After the awards ceremony was over there was live music for everyone to enjoy. While the band was on a break the raffle winners were announced along with other prizes. Sunday was a competitor day only with the event proceeding like the day before with awards being handed out at 3:00pm with John Shirey winning Grand Champion and Brandon Saldoni winning Reserve Champion. thank you to all our vendors and our sponsors: Hollywood Casino, Belfor, Timet and Precast Services
