May 17, 2024

On May 17th, 18th, and 19th the department held it's annual BBQ Competition. This year we had a total of 63 teams from both master series and backyard. There was a lot of new events this year we had 2 wing competitions one for the competitors on Friday night and our first responders contest on Saturday night. Along with those events there was a Sunday cook for the competitors. There was a live band on Saturday night with music by the band Outrage. The event was a success given the weather conditions. The SCA steak competition was held held Friday night with competitors trying to cook the perfect steak for the judges. Friday night was a first with the competitors wing contest, 12 competitors competed against each other preparing wings for sampling for the public to judge and Captain Blue coming out on top this year. Saturdays wing contest featured 12 local first responder teams from fire departments, law enforcement, veterans and American legion with the US Marshalls taking the top position this year. Saturday the Backyard and Master Series competitors were turning in there BBQ to be judged. The judges were there and took their KCBS oath and proceeded to judge the samples they were given from the teams. Sunday was day 2 and time for the competitors to turn in their samples for judging. The event is operated in accordance to the rules set forth by KCBS for the BBQ competitors and SCA for the steak competitors. We would like to thank our sponsors for this year Hollywood Casino, Photogenx, Witman Engineering, Azier Scientific, Belfor and Viwinco. A big thanks to The Crow Wagon, PA Boys BBQ, and Kolbs ice cream for being the food vendors. Thank you to our vendors for participating and selling their products. We had our raffle baskets available to purchase chances on and congratulations to the winners.
