Members Complete Additional Training

By Deputy Fire Chief Jason Brooks
November 3, 2014

This past weekend, all active TVFD firefighters spent 16 hours at the firehouse completing a basic fire police course. After being sworn in by Elverson's Mayor Bob Broderick and registering with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, all members will now be able to assist the current fire police officers at emergency scenes. As with other departments in the region with current times, TVFD's volunteer fire police force has been dwindling and keeping up with the increase in emergency calls and special events has been tolling on the dedicated fire police officers. In addition to the assistance now provided by firefighters, all members being trained through this course will receive the benefit of insurance policies in the unfortunate event of an on the job accident. Several topics were covered including legal aspects, types of equipment, scene safety and temporary detour set-ups.

Special thank you to Bucks County instructor Jim Hunnewell, Elverson's Mayor, State and Township representatives, Caernarvon Township Police and Berks County Fire Police Association.
