Member Attends Funerals for Boston's Firefighters

As many people have heard in recent news, Boston Fire Department lost 2 of their own from Engine 33/Ladder 15 and several others were injured during a 9 alarm apartment fire last week. Lieutenant Edward Walsh, a 43-year-old father of three with almost a decade on the job, and firefighter Michael Kennedy, a 33-year-old Marine veteran with more than six years, paid the ultimate sacrifice. Boston's bravest were faced that day with heavy volumes of fire that started in the basement and spread throughout the entire brick apartment building. Interior crews became trapped in the basement and immediately called a mayday over the radio for help. Other firefighters performed a rescue of all their colleagues, but were tragically unsuccessful in resuscitating 2 of them. No matter the department size or type, nor a firefighter's position, race, sex, or religion, all are effected in some way when hearing of a line of duty fatality. Firefighters know the dangers and risks involved when they sign up to do this job, both as a career or volunteer, but still chose to perform their duties to serve the public. TVFD's safety officer, Tom Glennon, is a retired Philadelphia Fire Captain, and made the trip to Boston this week with other city firefighters to pay their respects at the funerals. Our thoughts and prayers are extended to the family and friends of our fallen brothers in Boston.
