| BOX 3301 At 4:45 AM, Ladder 69 was dispatched to assist Station 33 (Honey Brook) with the working building fire at Kerns Hardware. Ladder 69 along with Rescue 69 made the quick response with 10 volunteers. At 4:54, The department was redispatched for the full company, bringing Engine(s) 69-1, 69-2, & 69-5. Units went on the scene with a working fire in the loft and roof area. Ladder 69 made an aggressvie attack on ventillating the front of the building, while Rescue 69 established scene lighting and filled air bottles. Engine 69-2 arrived and assisted Engine 33-1 (Honey Brook) with initial fire suppression efforts. Engine 69-5 initially laid a line to a hydrant, then transfered to tanker shuttle operations. Engine 69-1 set up a tanker fill site at the Tel Hai retirement community. After multiple hydrants failed to produce suffecient water supply, a tanker task force was established. At the days end, 21 tankers responded. Mutual aid from three different counties helped in the fight against the blaze. Here is a run down of responding companies: Chester County: (33) Honey Brook
Lancaster County: (4-9) White Horse
Berks County (24) Geigertown
Some special thanks to the Salvation Army of Lancaster for the hot food and beverages, Krapfs Buses for the fuel truck, the countless number of good neighbors for their hospitality, and John Trimble for some of the camera work. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Kern Hardware. We hope that they fully recover from this tragedy and start again soon to rebuild their business! Also, a special thanks to the members of Stations 62 (Ridge), 73 (Ludwig's Corner), and Berks 24 (Geigertown) for covering the Twin valley area for 12 hours. ** CHECK THE VIDEOS PAGE IN THE MULTIMEDIA SECTION FOR 2 MOVIE CLIPS ** |
