Snowstorm Vehicle Fire On Manor Road

By TVFD
January 23, 2016

At 8:17pm, TVFD was alerted for a vehicle fire at Manor Road and Chestnut Tree Road in West Nantmeal. Responding units were advised that multiple callers stated the vehicle was fully involved and the roadway was completely blocked by heavy snowfall. Battalion 69 (Belgarde) arrived in Engine 69-1 confirming the report and stated that they were now stuck in the drifting snow, but able to complete the assignment. The crew extended over 500 feet of hose in strong winds and blowing snow to gain access to the vehicle for suppression and protection of surrounding powerlines. Overhaul was completed on the vehicle and after equipment was packed up, the daunting task of digging out the fire apparatus began. Utilizing the crew's manual shoveling skills and the huge generosity of a local farmer and his tractor, Engine 69-1 was freed and returned to service.

TVFD cleared at 10:06pm.

Units: Engine 69-1
