By Assistant Fire Chief Jason Brooks
April 7, 2013

Tragically this weekend, Philadelphia Fire Department lost a brother firefighter while battling a 3 alarm building fire in the Queen Village section of the city. Captain Michael Goodwin was a 29 year veteran assigned to Ladder 27 and was operating on the roof, when a collapse caused him to fall several stories and become trapped. Another firefighter, Andrew Godlinski, suffered hand burns during the rescue of Captain Goodwin from the rubble. Thoughts and prayers go out from the officers and members of Twin Valley to our brothers and sisters of the Philadelphia Fire Department and friends and family of both Captain Goodwin and Firefighter Godlinski. Below is the funeral information.

A celebration of Capt. Goodwin's life will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Relatives, friends, members of the Philadelphia Fire Department Local 22 and all first responders are invited. The celebration will be at:

John F. Givnish Funeral Home
10975 Academy Rd.
Philadelphia

The funeral for Capt. Goodwin will be held Thursday at noon at:

St. Michael's Lutheran Church
2139 E. Cumberland St.
Philadelphia

He will be buried afterward at Hillside Cemetery in Roslyn, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Goodwin's memory can be sent to:

Firefighters Widow Fund
